Most families with toddler
s depend on backpacks and strollers. They help you and your child get out and about with ease, and carrying your child around in a backpack gives you a good workout.
Here are a couple of tips for picking the right gear:
- For backpacks: Be sure the safety strap is secure — and use it every time. Toddlers are particularly good at stepping on a backpack's frame or hip belt and catapulting themselves out, so be sure your child's legs are carefully positioned forward for the ride. And a good hip pad is essential, as most of your child's weight rests there.
- For strollers: Choose something sturdy — some toddlers can tip lightweight ones. To improve stability, add weight to the back. But you'll still need to keep an eye (if not a hand) on your stroller at all times.
Remember, it's worth paying a little bit more to get quality gear.
