Pampers has been hard at work for more than 50 years providing convenience for moms while also helping to protect babies’ delicate skin. Check out a few of the more commonly asked questions about the components of Pampers diapers. Have an additional question not covered below? Feel free to contact us.

How do we know materials like superabsorbent gel are safe?
Like all materials and ingredients in our diapers, Pampers conducts testing to evaluate the safety of this component. These materials have been widely used since the 1980s in a variety of consumer products including diapers and feminine hygiene products,as well as for use inpackaging in direct contact with food and drugs.

Across the industry, the safety of superabsorbent material has been proven in more than 400 consumer (diaperanswers.org) tests studying every way a person could come in contact with it – through skin contact or accidental ingestion by babies or pets. Each study has consistently demonstrated the safety of this material.

Are the materials in Pampers diapers toxic to my baby?
No, Pampers does not add any toxic materials or use them in our manufacturing process.Every material in a Pampers diaper meets high standards for safety and is frequently used in a number of commonly-used products.

Are diaper materials safe when they come in contact with my baby’s skin?
Pampers carefully evaluates and tests our products and the materials that go into them using well-established safety assessment methods to ensure there is no harm to baby’s skin. The diaper ingredients and materials used in Pampers diapers have been clinically tested and do not cause skin irritation or skin sensitization.

Are the substances included in diaper fragrance safe for my baby?
Yes, Pampers powder-fresh scent has been proven safe for use on baby’s skin and uses fragrance raw materials that have passed all IFRA (International Fragrance Association) safety standards. Years of research supported by safety scientists and market experience have affirmed the safety profile of the scent and confirmed that it is non-allergenic and non-irritating to baby’s skin.

Are the colors on the inside of my baby’s diaper safe for my baby’s skin?

At Pampers, we only use ingredients that are proven safe.  Our colorants have been carefully assessed and tested for safety and have been proven safe for infants and children.  All of our colors have been thoroughly reviewed by external safety and medical experts. Our colors (or pigments) are non-toxic and non-allergenic and are commonly used in consumer products, contact lenses and food packaging. Additionally, all the colors inside the diaper are embedded in the diaper material, which keeps them from rubbing off onto baby.

If the color outside the diaper rubs off on my baby’s skin, is it safe?

At Pampers, we only use ingredients that are proven safe.  Our colorants have been carefully assessed and tested for safety and have been proven safe for infants and children.  All of our colors have been thoroughly reviewed by external safety and medical experts.  Our colors (or pigments) are non-toxic and non-allergenic and are commonly used in consumer products, contact lenses and food packaging.  In the rare event that this happens, the color can be removed with soap and water and a little baby or vegetable oil.

Do diaper scent ingredients cause skin irritations or sensitization?
Diaper perfume ingredients are also assessed thoroughly for their safety, especially to rule out skin irritation and skin sensitization. According to our clinical research, there is no increased risk for inducing diaper rash for babies using scented diapers compared to unscented diapers. Years of research supported by safety scientists and market experience have affirmed the safety profile of the scent and confirmed that it is non-allergenic, non-irritating and does not cause diaper rash.
