What can I do about my 5-month-old's uneven skin tone?
Skin pigment, or melanin, is what gives skin its color. More melanin is produced in individuals with darker complexions. However, the production of melanin in babies may be delayed or irregular, which can result in a lighter or blotchy skin tone early in life. With time, melanin production tends to even out, and your son's skin color will achieve uniformity. In the meantime, be sure to protect him from sun damage by avoiding the sun whenever possible and using protective clothing and sun block as necessary.
