This blog focuses on mom-me time. Let's face it; that's time that moms don't have. So, you need to make a plan. Take a few minutes on Sunday night and write out your schedule for the week. Plan not just the usual baby, home and work activities; but also some time for you. Whether it be a workout, time for a book or a manicure. You need time for you to recharge. You will be a happier mother and spouse. Plan for it!
Last week, I found myself getting a cat scan for my sinuses. The technician said, "Sorry, it will only be another minute". I found myself disappointed as I really would have loved to lay there for another hour. Last week, I sat in the dentist chair, happily closing my eyes while the hygenist poked away at my gums. I didn't care. I was resting and no one was bothering me. It occurs to me that this isn't normal. I should not be so starved for quiet time that I enjoy these moments. Don't wait until you are sick to slow down. Carve out a few moments each day and give yourself permission to do nothing.

“I barely have time to take a shower”
“I don’t want to drop my baby off at the gym daycare”
The excuses go on and on about why moms are not working out. It’s time to throw those excuses out the window. You need to exercise! Let’s face it, you need “strength” for motherhood. Most moms feel they are so busy taking care of everyone else that there is no time to take care of herself. Fitness does not have to take place in a gym. And it doesn’t have to take place in 1-hour (or even 30-minute) intervals. You need to commit to fit fitness in to every day of your life. Here are some ideas for you…
- Floor Time – Your baby loves and needs playtime on the floor. Why not do some floor exercises at this time? Consider crunches, plank and even exercises that involve your baby.
- Stroller Workout – Turn your stroller in to a workout. Your baby will enjoy getting out of the house and you will find that it’s a great time to exercise. Just walking or jogging with your stroller is a great workout (so long as you maintain good posture). Add strength exercises through lunges and squats with the stroller.
- Front Pack workout – Most moms have a front pack carrier for their baby (often called a Baby Bjorn after the popular brand name). When you wear this, you are essentially wearing a weighted vest. This will increase caloric expenditure. You can walk with your baby in the carrier and do some strength exercises.
- Mom and Baby Classes – If you need motivation consider classes that incorporate baby in to the workout.

Your body will benefit from movement. No time is too little. Start small, build gradually and make it part of your new life as a mom.
How many times do you lay your head on the pillow only to beat yourself up about all the things you didn’t get done or stress out on all the things you have to do? Mama, give yourself a break! Have you ever thought of all that you accomplish in a day? As a mom, you are a cook, a baby feeder, a diaper changer, a playmate, a driver, a banker, a nurse, a friend, a wife, a housekeeper, a launderer, a shopper and the list goes on. While we don’t often see the fruits of our labor, it really is a lot to juggle. Many of you are juggling careers on top of this. No offense to the guys, but a man would be hard-pressed to keep all these balls in the air. So while you may wish you could accomplish more, please give yourself a break. Lower your expectations just a wee bit and give yourself a chance to enjoy your baby. Sometimes moms feel deflated because all of her jobs just need to be re-done in a matter of hours or days. We feel like we don’t create anything. Take a look at your baby and realize that you created a miracle and she’s here to stay!
