Question

My 17-month-old son still sleeps in his crib. Every once in a while he will get his leg caught between the rungs of his crib. Once I had to call my husband to free my son's leg. What should I do? Do I put the bumper pads back in? Or do I get a net meshing and tie it around the crib so his leg won't get caught anymore?

Answer

Don't use the bumper pads once the child is standing, as he could use the pads to climb out of the crib. I would also be concerned about net meshing, as he could get caught in the ties used to keep it in place. Try rolling some blankets and wedging them between the crib spaces where his leg can get caught. Be sure the blanket rolls are fairly flat, so he can't use them to climb out either, and make sure you've lowered the crib mattress as far as you can. Good luck!
