Question

Is it normal for an 8-month-old to crawl with one leg crossed under his belly?

Answer

Your baby has what we call a combat crawl, and that is just fine. Every infant has his own way of moving around and your baby is showing you his special way. We would want to be sure that he is using both legs for other activities, that he has balanced strength and movement, and that his legs are a matched set—that is, that both legs have the same muscle mass. At your baby's 9-month checkup, have his health care provider look at those legs carefully. My best guess is that all is well and he's just showing you he's special—but then you knew that already, I bet.
