Question
My 6-month-old daughter has started rolling over onto her stomach while she is sleeping. Is this a problem now, or will she be okay?
Answer
Your daughter has passed the highest risk period for SIDS, the first three months. Since she now can roll over, she can get herself out of many situations that might compromise her breathing, so her risk is much lower. And you won't be able to stop her movement at night. But there are somethings you should continue to check on: Keep her bed free of stuffed toys, fluffy blankets, and pillows. Be sure the mattress fits snugly against the sides of the bed and remove her bumper pads so she can't get entrapped.Don't overdress her for bed and keep the room at a comfortably cool temperature. Keep her environment completely smoke-free. Keep on
breastfeeding for as long as you can. No one can ever guarantee the complete safety of any child at any time, but if you do all those things, you've done everything possible for safe sleeping.
