How to play

There's nothing like stick puppets or finger puppets for entertaining a baby. They're easy to make and super easy to take with you when you're out and about.

Print out some of your favorite Smiling Faces and cut them out. You can laminate each if you want to add durability. Tape each face to a Popsicle stick, chopstick, or thin piece of stiff cardboard. For a super-quick puppet, you can also tape a face directly onto your finger. Note: these puppets are for parental use only. Don't let you baby play with them on his own.

For fun in the car, securely attach very strong tape or a piece of Velcro to the back of a face and hang it on the back seat in front of your child's infant car seat. It gives young babies plenty to look at during those rare moments when they're actually awake on a car trip.

Learning and Growing

Children enjoy observing the bold contrasts of black-and-white faces. Although your baby can see at birth, she needs lots of opportunities to help develop her ability to focus, track, and view things from a distance.
