Pampers Pure Hybrid – Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the disposable inserts?

The Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diapers disposable inserts feature sticky patches on the back of the insert so that the insert stays in place during use. Simply remove the paper to reveal the StayPutTM sticky sides and adhere the insert directly to the reusable cloth diaper cover at both edges, on top of the fleece lining (on top of the flap). After use, remove the disposable insert from the reusable cloth diaper cover and discard the insert in the trash.

Do I need to wash my new Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid reusable cloth diaper covers before using them?

We recommend washing the reusable cloth diaper covers before use, just like you would do with new baby clothes. Wash warm, use a detergent without fabric softeners, and hang to dry or tumble dry low.

Can I use the Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid reusable cloth diaper covers more than once before washing?

Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diaper reusable cloth diaper cover can be used several times before washing as desired. When used with Pampers Pure Protection Disposable Inserts, many moms are able to reuse the reusable cloth diaper cover two or three times before washing. The fleece lining material is designed to dry quickly.

How do I wash Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid reusable cloth diaper covers?

When it’s time for a change, simply remove the Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diaper disposable insert and discard in the trash. If you cannot reuse the cover immediately before washing, we recommend storing the reusable cloth diaper cover in a waterproof wet bag or diaper pail or a pail of water until ready for washing. When on the go, store used covers in a wet bag or repurposed plastic bag until you can transfer to your usual storage container or washer at home.

We recommend washing the reusable cloth diaper covers in cold water or warm water to a maximum of 104F/40C, as higher temperatures could damage the waterproof layer. You can wash them with other baby clothes. Do not use chlorine bleach as this may damage the fabrics and fade the print. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not iron. If you have hard water, you may add water softener. Avoid fabric softener and detergents with fabric softener as they can build up on the fabric of the reusable cloth diaper cover.

What detergent should I use to wash my reusable cloth diaper covers?

Most moms wash their reusable cloth diaper covers in the same detergent as their family’s clothes. We recommend using a detergent without fabric softener, like Tide Free & Gentle HE.

How many Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid reusable cloth diaper covers should I start with?

Our 3-pack starter kit is designed to give you 1-2 days of usage. Depending on your laundry routine, you may want to consider more reusable cloth diaper covers. We recommend having a minimum of 12-16 Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid reusable cloth diaper covers on hand for a full-time cloth diaper routine. When used with Pampers Pure Protection disposable inserts, many moms reuse the cloth diaper cover two or three times before washing. Depending on the age of your baby, you can expect to use 2-4 Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid reusable cloth diaper covers per day. A newborn may require more frequent changes.

How many disposable inserts should I buy?

Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diapers disposable inserts come in a variety of pack counts. In general, you should plan to buy as many disposable inserts as you typically would of disposable diapers. For a full-time cloth diaper routine, we recommend keeping a minimum of 20 disposable inserts on hand to last several days of use. Larger count packs are available for convenience of keeping additional inserts on hand. For extra absorbency, we recommend Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diaper overnight disposable inserts that are sold separately.

What size cloth diaper covers and disposable inserts should I buy?

The Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diapers is a one-size fits most diapering system that allows you to adjust the reusable cloth diaper cover fit as your baby grows (8-35 pounds). You can customize the fit of the waist and legs to your baby’s unique shape. The same reusable cloth diaper covers grow with your baby from birth to potty training. Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diaper disposable inserts are also one size and designed to fit perfectly inside the Pure Protection Hybrid reusable cloth diaper covers.

Can I flush the disposable insert into the toilet?

Our disposable inserts should not be flushed in the toilet as they are not designed for septic systems. If you wish, simply shake any solids into the toilet to further reduce waste and odor and throw the disposable insert into the trash can.

I don’t want to carry a smelly diaper in my bag. How can I minimize odors?

Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diaper disposable inserts should be discarded in the trash after use. If you experience a slight odor on your reusable cloth diaper cover, we recommend using a wet bag or reusable plastic bag for storing used covers on-the-go.

I worry that the reusable cloth diaper cover smells. What should I do about it?

If you follow a proper wash routine, using a recommended detergent, reusable cloth diaper cover smells should not occur. However, in the event that odor develops, we recommend completing a “swoosh” test to check for build-up of detergent on the cover. If the “swoosh” test fails, it is likely that you will need to strip your reusable cloth diaper cover. We recommend using a soaking method, using a “stripping” agent, such as RLR. The goal of stripping is to remove any minerals/metals from the wash water that have deposited and built up on the reusable cloth diaper cover.

Pampers® Pure Protection Hybrid Diapers

What’s a “Swoosh” Test?

To complete a “swoosh” test, fill a container (large bowl or Tupperware) with clean water. Next, “swoosh” your cloth diaper cover through the clean water and evaluate whether or not there are “suds” in the water. If the water in the container remains clear, you do not have buildup. If you observe cloudiness/bubbles in the water, your reusable cloth diaper cover has build-up; to remove build-up, we recommend stripping (see “I worry that the reusable cover smells. What should I do about it?”)

How are Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diapers more sustainable than regular disposable diapers?

At Pampers, we’re parents too and we believe you shouldn’t have to choose between what’s good for baby and what’s good for the planet. That’s why we’ve created Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diapers, a part reusable and part disposable diapering system. Our regular disposable inserts contain 25% less disposable material vs Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid disposable diapers size 1-5.

Pure Protection Hybrid inserts are made in a zero-waste-to-landfill manufacturing plant in the US that uses 100% renewable electricity and is Green-e accredited. All our wood pulp comes from responsible sources and is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified. The skin-facing top layer of the insert is made with bio-derived polyester fibers from sugarcane and is enriched with a plant-based lotion derived from shea butter.

If you always wash your Pure Protection Hybrid Diaper reusable covers with your normal laundry, you will decrease water and energy use.

Are Pampers Pure Protection Hybrid Diapers good for the environment? What is the environmental footprint?
