Of English and Scottish origin, there are several possible origins for this catchy name with a no-nonsense, grown-up feel. The first is the Anglo-Norman nickname Graunt, which in turn hops back to the Old French word we all know, 'grand', itself descending from the Latin 'grandis', and all meaning 'tall or 'large'. The name could however also be an alternate spelling of the German Grandt, but it comes down to the same meaning, and was used to indicate a 'great' or 'grand' little boy!
