Miles is the Anglicized version of the originally Norman-French Milo. Both names, however, share their provenance with the Latin word for “soldier”, which is miles. The word miles itself changed meaning in Medieval times, coming to mean the more noble “knight”. Both of these, of course, exude strength and valor, and Miles has been a much loved name perhaps because of these associations.
